The Wellness Center gym has reopened! The gym is operating at 50% capacity in accordance with Gov. Hogan's Executive Order on the reopening of fitness centers in Maryland and for the safety of its members.

The Richard A. Henson Wellness Center offers a wide variety of programs and services targeted toward addressing the health concerns and needs of older persons. The center’s goal is to enable and to empower members to be physically active and to maintain and enhance their level of independence. See our activities calendar for current offerings.

Those interested in attending our facility to exercise individually or in one of our group exercise classes must fill out membership forms and bring a release signed by your physician (this form is included in the membership packet) to register. Membership forms are available in the wellness center or for download as a PDF.

Member Guidelines*

 

Please DON’T attend the gym if:
You have had a FEVER of 99.5 degrees or higher in the last 7 days.
You have a persistent dry COUGH
You have been in DIRECT CONTACT with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days
If you have TESTED POSITIVE for COVID-19 in the last 14 days. Please follow CDC guidelines for self-isolation before returning to the gym.


DO:
Practice SOCIAL DISTANCING: maintain a distance of 6 feet between yourself and others
Wear a FACE MASK while in the gym/MAC building

*The re-opening of MAC’s Richard A. Henson Wellness Center is in accordance with the Governor’s guidelines for the reopening of fitness centers in Maryland, and with CDC guidelines.

 

Wellness Center Procedures for Members

All visitors must enter/exit the MAC building through the main entrance, and successfully complete the daily screening - temperature check, screening questions and face mask in place – before continuing to the gym.

Members are asked to sign in at the front desk when they arrive, and to sign out when they leave. This is for the purposes of COVID-19 contact tracing.

 

Entering the Wellness Center

MASKS: Members should wear a mask while in the gym, and while exercising. If wearing a mask while exercising is not safe for you, it will not be required. Please wear a mask at all other times.

SOCIAL DISTANCING: Please practice social distancing at all times (remaining 6 feet apart)

 

At the gym front desk

On the first day you return to the gym, you will give your name and pay your membership fee at the gym front desk; staff will then generate, activate and issue you your membership card. This card will be needed to check in every time you visit the Wellness Center

 

Check-In

Once your membership card is activated, you will simply scan it each time you visit, for a quick, touchless check-in.

 Equipment Usage

Please wipe down equipment, and use hand sanitizer before and after equipment use.
Ask a gym staff member for help if needed!

*Please note: the number of gym members using equipment at any given time MUST NOT exceed the 50% facility capacity.

                                  

Wellness Center Group Classes


Please check in at the gym when you first arrive

MAXIMUM CLASS SIZE: 28

 We will hold as many classes as possible OUTSIDE. Please plan accordingly and bring: water, sunscreen and bug spray, and wear appropriate clothing

On the morning of your class, check The Weather Channel forecast at www.weather.com. If the temperature or heat index is predicted to be over 80 degrees at class time, the class will be held INSIDE.

ALL classes held indoors will be offered in the Bradford Room

Please wipe down your chair at the end of each class

 

Personal Training

Personal training sessions can be held outside (weather permitting) or inside. Trainers will wipe down equipment after each use, will maintain social distance, and will take any additional precautions you wish.

 

Additional Safety Measures

Additional precautions your Wellness Center Staff is taking to keep you safe include:

Daily temperature check and covid-19 screening when you arrive at MAC

Sanitizing of doors every hour

Sanitizing equipment daily

Sanitizing the Bradford Room floor after every class

Wearing of masks – by both staff and Wellness Center members

Providing hand sanitizer

Limiting one person in restrooms/locker rooms at a time

Increased facility air circulation

Eligibility
The center is open to those age 50 and older, and anyone with a disability.

Health Education & Screening
The Senior Health Program offers health promotion and disease prevention activities designed to promote and maintain the older person’s levels of physical and mental well-being.

Various activities include health fairs, nutrition screening & counseling, blood pressure screening, dance & movement classes.
